The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care for patient populations in the operating rooms (OR) and for perioperative care in the transition from preoperative preparation, through surgery and to recovery areas.
The OR Registered Nurse must possess the skills necessary to assist the physician in a variety of surgical procedures, must minimize turnaround times between procedures, and follow established safety procedures.
The OR RN maintains and provides accurate communication during the intraoperative and perioperative periods.
The OR RN uses the nursing process to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care throughout the patient’s stay in the OR areas.
The RN’s scope of practice is determined by the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act and established by Baptist Health and patient care services policies, procedures and standards of practice.
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of school of nursing with current unrestricted KY license required, or higher.
Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred on hire and required within 90 days of hire.
Requires good clinical, organizational, customer service and critical thinking skills.
Flexibility in work schedule, shift hours and job duties are required as well as basic computer skills.
Good interpersonal skills and rapport with physicians utilizing OR required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CNOR preferred.
Two years recent experience in an acute care or outpatient surgery center preferred.
New graduates or candidates without surgical experience may be considered, subject to evaluation and approval by the Manager and the Director of Surgical Services and must be recommended for continuation in the position by their designated preceptor on an ongoing basis, become competent in critical skills within six months and achieve full proficiency within one year.
