Recreational Therapist Position Summary:
The Recreational Therapist is responsible for the coordination and planning of therapeutic and recreational activities for participants, including individual and group recreation activities.
The Recreational Therapist plans, implements and documents individualized recreation therapy in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care, policies and expectations of the PACE program according to regulatory standards.
Recreational Therapist Position Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provides a comprehensive recreation therapy program for participants including development and oversight of functional maintenance programs.
• Develops specific therapeutic programs as part of the plan of care to include recreational and social activities.
• Collaborates with activity staff regarding group and individual activity planning.
• Serves as a resource to staff and assists with coordinating volunteer activities in the Adult Day Center.
• Evaluates and assesses participants to determine functional abilities including physical, emotional, cognitive, sensory or social components to determine necessary interventions.
• Assists participants in learning/re-learning tasks necessary to support activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) responsible for recreation therapy evaluations and development and implementation of the individualized recreation therapy plan of care (POC) in accordance with PACE policies, procedures, expectations and regulations.
• Reviews and revises the POC in coordination with the IDT and per regulatory requirements as participant status changes and as driven by needs identified as significant by the participant/family/caregiver.
• Builds within the Center a sense of community and a warm social atmosphere in which participants are able to identify a support system.
• Communicates clearly, concisely and in a timely and positive manner with team members, community partners, referral sources and participants/families/caregivers.
• Observes each participant for changes in physical, mental, emotional and social functioning and reports such changes to the IDT.
• Identifies and provides for educational needs of the participant/family/caregiver.
• Participates in center quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrates commitment to 24/7 participant care by participating in on call, weekend, evening, and holiday on-call rotations.
• Works with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective, cost-efficient care.
• Assists participants and caregivers in filing grievances
• Other projects and duties as assigned.
Recreational Therapist Position Qualifications:
• High school diploma required.
Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Recreation and Fitness Studies, Rehabilitation Therapy or similar course of study preferred.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population or must receive appropriate training upon hire.
• Must maintain CPR certification.
• Must have flexibility to travel within the service area.
• Proficiency with technology-based tools, including electronic medical record.
• Able to work independently and as an effective member of a team.
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders from varied backgrounds.
• Excellent organizational skills; able to multitask and maintain numerous initiatives with time sensitivity.
• Working knowledge of principles and practices of healthcare, healthcare systems, managed care, Medicare and Medicaid benefits and regulations.
• Knowledge of safety and infection control requirements for healthcare facilities.
