Responsibilities:
Adheres to all regulatory requirements and professional standards as governed by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and ensuring that all supervised staff meets requirements.
Assesses available staffing resources frequently during shift and makes assignments accordingly taking into consideration census, level of acuity, and unscheduled absences and reassigns staff as necessary to meet patient care needs.
Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize productivity and promotes cost-effective management of equipment and supplies.
Completes daily rounding of all patients to ascertain condition and satisfaction of patients, evaluates staffing needs, and serves as a liaison with all staff, including medical staff, regarding patient care
Provides a detailed report to oncoming Shift Manager/Relief Charge Nurse highlighting areas of concern, potential problems, or unusual situations.
Collaborates with other Shift Managers to establish and maintain a regular schedule including an on-call rotation to provide an available resource to staff members and cover staffing should areas of concern arise.
Shift Managers will receive on call pay during periods of on call rotation but will not be eligible for bonus pay.
Maintains clinical knowledge in service area and identifies and communicates areas of clinical practice that require policy clarification or learning needs.
Promptly investigates all patient/visitor occurrences in service area, assesses impact on clinical status, and provides on-site corrective action if required and initiates follow-up as necessary.
Must also report findings to Chief Nursing Office.
Coordinates and communicates personnel requested time off in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, HIPAA rules and regulations, and appropriate channels of communication.
Provides appropriate and adequate communication to staff regarding policies, procedures, guidelines, and information from Administration through regular in-person staff meetings and keeps records of such according to organizational policies.
Clarifies job expectations with staff members, evaluates and/or counsels staff identifying strengths and limitations, directing any serious limitations or performance to direct supervisor.
Maintains knowledge of most current methods, procedures, and standards of practice in service area that are congruent with evidenced-based practice and completes Quality Improvement audits in timely manner.
Has the intent to enroll in Medical-Surgical Certification program within six months of acquiring position or as eligibility determines.
Qualifications:
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse Licensure
BLS and ACLS Certification
BSN preferred
Previous supervisory experience preferred
